Film Color Correction

Color correction is the procedure of enhancing the look of a selected image for presentation on different display devices on the same platform. The three layers of image processing i.e., color, contrast, and brightness are processed together using a technique called image processing chroma keying. Various characteristics of an object like color, contrast, texture, resolution, and black level can be enhanced whether for still photos, videos, or moving images. It is used to make the displayed image sharper, brighter, and more pleasant to the viewer.

The technology of film color correction is available in the form of photo-chromatic enhancement system, wherein the color of the film is detected using a sensor and are subsequently enhanced. There are different types of sensor that use different technologies. These days, digital cameras and printers utilize the principle of image sensing to detect film color corrections. A scanner too can perform the same function. сториборд

Digital photography is a revolution today. This type of photography does not need any film. The captured images are then stored on digital media and can be viewed later either by the photographer or by anyone else who has an internet connection. The images are always true color unless they are processed in some other way. Film-based photo-processing methods include photo-shooting and photo-editing using software, while film-based color-correcting methods mostly include development of color films using a variety of processes including emulsification, conversion to black and white, or adding spot color to the original image.

There are many techniques of film color correction. They include photo-realistic, digital-film based, and printing process corrections. In photography, image processing Chroma keying involves detecting a possible color error, correcting it, and then repeating the corrective process to the target image. Chroma keying is done with film-based digital cameras. It involves applying chromatic lenses to the lens and then detecting the color error in the scene. The corrected image is then brought into the camera and processed.

Photo-realistic image processing (or Real-Time Computer Screening) using monochrome film involves pre-shot measurements of color and shading from a computer and then utilizing advanced computer programs to make corrections. After the corrections are made, the images are shown on a monitor or printed on quality photo paper. The printing results are usually more accurate than those derived from Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or other similar tools. However, they are still less precise than the color results obtained by digital photographs.

The printed images have very little contrast or shading, and there are no bands or dots in the original photograph. There are downsides to using film color correction. The printing cost can be much higher than the actual cost of developing the picture into a print. However, the advantages of using film color correction far outweigh the cons.
